Belonging

Hello.

Welcome to The House of Belonging;

a consulting practise and community that catalyse social action and belonging through projects, conversations and research.

Our lives and our planet depend on, and deepen through, belonging.

To be human is to belong. Belonging is a circle that embraces everything; if we reject it, we damage our nature. The word ‘belonging’ holds together the two fundamental aspects of life: Being and Longing…

Our vision

  1. To collectively understand our inherent longing for belonging, the thread that connects life

  2. To explore the space between self belonging, interpersonal belonging, planetary belonging and spiritual belonging

  3. To unleash our agentic capacity for integrated belonging, in order to sustain, nourish + replenish earth and humankind

Meet the Creators, Consultants + Conversation Catalysts

Sophie Cheers is a belonging builder, a social innovator, a storytelling specialist and an impact producer. In 2015, she founded Humankind Enterprises which operated for 8 years for the purposes of building interpersonal belonging and creating story-led change. She has led many social connectedness initiatives and also developed the award winning StoryPod video booth which facilitated the capture of thousands of real stories. It is through her passion for interpersonal belonging and her own search for planetary and spiritual belonging that Sophie wanted to find ways to explore the intersection between all of these domains. It is with a fervent sense of love and hope that she works towards a future of belonging.

Is belonging needed for deep climate action?

There are huge bodies of evidence that affirm why belonging is central to human health and societal wellbeing. However, there is little known evidence for how a sense of belonging impacts and catalyses agentic capacity in the areas of environmental stewardship. Does a sense of belonging positively impact people’s attitude and action towards climate action? Can a strategic focus on building planetary belonging have positive flow on effects for the planet, and not just people? And could this be the missing link we are looking for in our ability to create a revolutionarily re-alignment towards nature as indigenous people have experienced for millennia?

Current Consulting Projects

  • Sophie is currently working with Mahasoma, a feminine-led Vedic wisdom community, to build a strategy towards the vision of improving health, harmony and belonging for people and planet. The Theory of Change is underpinned by how meditation (a self harmony practise) can lead to spontaneous actions that support social health, harmony and belonging.

  • Sophie is working with Ripper Corp, an impactful drone company, to uncover wildlife data that can improve outcomes for the environment and people's deeper understanding and connection to it.
